Things Celtic began importing products from Ireland in 1997. In 1999 we opened our first store front location in Austin. In 2018 it was time to slow down and move to a small town, we chose the community of Dublin, Texas. At the begining of 2025 Bob and Nikki Rafferty took over ownership of the shop and moved it to Elgin, Texas. There they established the store as the Emerald of Elgin, starting the newest chapter in the life of this wonderful store. There are over 3000 items in the store!
What to we have?
We carry a wide range of rings, pendants, bracelets, teas, Irish and Scottish snacks, books, Tartan sashes and ties, shirts, Hanna hats, art, and so much more.
Yes, Things Celtic sells Kilts!
We work with three large tartan manufacturers in Scotland and also with the Welsh Tartan Centre. We have the fabric sample books with over 800 tartan choices. If you'd like to order a custom made kilt, we want to make sure you've had a chance to see the actual fabric swatches, not just a scanned image on internet. Ordering a kilt can be confusing, if you're going to spend hundreds of dollars on a traditional kilt it is best to be measured in person.
How much does a custom made kilt cost?
A traditional, hand sewn wool kilt starts at about $900. The price will depend on the fabric you choose and the amount of fabric needed to complete the project.
Do you stock ready to wear kilts?
Yes, we do. We sell a very nice line of acrylic blend kilts that we get from a Scottish supplier, they make a range of about a dozen tartans. These all have a 24" length. Our supply is constantly changing and we often have to wait months to get a particular tartan in stock. You can find our current inventory in the "Budget Kilts" category on our shopping page.
What about kilts for women?
We don't keep kilted skirts in stock. This is a very small store, and there are just too many options on sizes, lengths and tartans. Some of our suppliers do make lovely kilted skirts and we'll be happy to measure you for a custom made skirt in you family tartan.
