There is definitely a specific technique to brewing a proper cup of tea.
Fill a kettle with cold water, and bring to a gentle boil. Yes, the water needs to be boiling; making tea with water that isn’t hot enough is a common mistake. For your teapot, a ceramic one is recommended. Warm your teapot by pouring a little of the boiling water in the pot, and swirling it all around, then pour it out. This will warm your pot so your tea won’t cool off too quickly, and a cool teapot can crack if hot tea is poured in without warming it first. If you’re just making one cup, warm your teacup in the same way. Add the tea to your teapot. Use one tea bag per cup, or one teaspoon per cup if you’re using loose leaf tea. Carefully pour the hot water over the tea, and let it steep for approximately three minutes. Under-steeping is another common mistake when making tea. If you’re using loose leaf tea, pour it through a fine mesh strainer into your cup. Add sugar and milk if you prefer, then sit back and enjoy a delicious cuppa!
